Reducing Stress with Massage Therapy

If you have had a massage, you will have felt the effects of the treatment!  It is much more than a pamper session as it helps your body to rejuvenate and heal.  It helps to lower stress and tension, helping to lower blood pressure and encourages better sleep.  The increased circulation of the blood in your body will repair any damaged cells and you will feel better.

Deep tissue therapeutic massage, which uses pressure on particular parts of the fascia (fibrous connective tissue that surrounds the muscles) treats specific injuries and chronic pain.

Ordinary massage therapy ultimately works by stimulating pressure receptors under the skin, boosting serotonin (the feel-good, anti-pain neurotransmitter) and lowering cortisol, the stress hormone that takes a heavy toll on your defences against disease.

Studies over the past 15 years have proven that the power of touch on our bodies help with a large range of health and stress related problems.  One study found that receiving regular massages can hel lower blood pressure, anxiety, and stress hormones in those with hypertension.  Massage therapy can even curb migraine headaches.

Adults with migraines who received twice-weekly, 30 minute massages for five consecutive weeks, reported more headache-free days and fewer problems sleeping than a control group that didn't receive massages, according to a study.  Massage also reduced the number of weekly headaches in chronic-headache sufferers, according to a study published in the American Journal of Public Health.

Often my clients have found the effect of massage therapy in their lives will help to keep their stress levels in a more balanced condition and overwhelm is minimal.

The power of touch is sadly being diminished in this technological age and we as a people do thrive with contact.  As we lose our partners or our parents lose theirs, we miss the contact with touch.  Our skin stays strong with a regular massage as the constant blood circulation enables to slow down the dry, crepey skin older people get.

So my conclusion : Have yourself a regular massage to keep you happy, healthy and stress free as possible!
